Born in NYC, I developed early a fascination with the way which stories were told through images. It was after sifting through stacks of old photographs my father managed hide of his time serving in the Vietnam War. Photos of a time and a place unfamilar to me; Siagon brothels, combat, and his snaps of his loyal band of brothers told me everything there was to know. This crystalized an intense interest to seize what I later learned was what Henri Cartier- Bresson refers to as the “decisive moment”. That instant when one can suspend an event within the eye and heart of the beholder.

This is where my journey began...

S/S16 BTS HIS on HER
FASHION FILM

The HIS on HER brief was meant to be natural, beautiful, intimate and bright. We wanted to show off both the mens collection and introduce the upcoming women's line. The simplist way to do this was for us to have Luvi wear it. And so HIS on Her came to life. Brad Dixon the founder of Special Delivery NYC is a remarkable creative and has a special way with words. He took the community property "His and Her's" and made it work perfectly as His on Her. The BTS video captures provides a preview of the attitude and playfulness we shot for.

ART IMITATES ART

These are images I created and shot for a jewlery line that were inspired by renowned painters of their day. The first was "Whistler's Mother" by James McNeill Whistler (1871), the second "Abduction of the Psyche" by William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1895) and lastly a newer piece "Still Life with Grapes and Skull" by Christopher Beaumont (2005).

REFLEKTOR [release campaign]

Reflektor is the fourth studio album by the Canadian indie rock band Arcade Fire. It was released on October 28, 2013 through Sonovox Records in Canada and Merge Records in the U.S. Reflektor is a double album which was recording in three different studios and was co-produced by LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy, regular Arcade Fire producer Markus Dravs, and the band themselves.

In early August, a cryptic logo, which incorporated the word "reflektor", appeared on the walls of cities around the world. The street art was reported to be part of a guerrilla marketing campaign for the new Arcade Fire album.

The build-up to the release of the album was described by Pitchfork as "unusual, ambitious, vague, confounding, a little heavy-handed, and very successful". It was compared to similar campaigns for albums by Daft Punk and Kanye West, also released in 2013. In such campaigns, the music itself becomes one part of a wider experience. Although the events surrounding the album's release take place in the real world, their impermanence suits the use of social media, where the campaign is documented and shared. In an interview, Butler stated that he enjoyed anticipating the release of an album, and that the build-up to the release of Reflektor felt like "a weird art project" or "throwing a good party".

For this assignment  I traveled to Kingston, Jamaica at the artist pleasure to capture this shot (Top) of the Reflektor woman wading to the shore  with her boom box. Other shots include NYC's Washington Square Park. In addition to creating a promo (above) for the ulbums global release with additional footage from Tokyo and London.

REQUIEM FOR A DREAM

Requiem for a Dream is a 2000 American psychological drama film directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Ellen Burstyn, Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly, and Marlon Wayans. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Hubert Selby, Jr., with whom Aronofsky wrote the screenplay. Burstyn was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance. The film was screened out of competition at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival. Requiem was the second picture Darren and I made together, Requiem was the first book I ever optioned.

The film depicts four different forms of drug addiction, which lead to the characters’ imprisonment in a world of delusion and reckless desperation that is subsequently overtaken by reality, thus leaving them as hollow shells of their former selves.

REQUIEM WRAP PARTY ~ Matty Libitique, DP (2nd from Left) ,M. Scott Vogel, Producer (Center, Back), Darren Aronofsky, Director (2nd from Right), Brian Costello, Assistant to Director (Right)

Cyberia is a psychological thriller set in the slightly-distant future, where one man must forfeit his own humanity in order save the world from events he set in motion. The film is set in a classist dystopian society which is eerily similar to our modern world. It is a truly terrifying one to imagine.

At the center of this world is Daniel Tess, a disgraced scientist, who intentionally sabotages his life's work, a very powerful machine that if enabled would have horrific consequences for the world. But with old and new forces emerging to use his creation in increasingly dark ways, Tess can no longer sit idly by and is forced into action. Standing in his way is Aaron, Daniel’s ambitious business partner who conspired against him and is responsible for setting Daniel on a path toward obscurity.

CYBERIA CONT...

In the midst of Tess' quest, he is also faced with an entirely personal struggle, as he fights to maintain a passable relationship with his combative ex-wife Emma, with whom he splits custody of his 15-year-old son Conor. As Conor has grown into young adulthood under his mother's influence, he has come to resent his father, but with history's future depending on Tess, Conor has no choice but to place his unfailing certainty in his father, a man he didn't imagine to be quite so fascinating and wickedly capable. Like a fearless sidekick, Conor embraces the responsibility of helping his father, coming to age by way of a new understanding of Tess' fight. In a world where so few stand for anything, Tess stands for something, and Conor grows to respect him as an ally and role model.

With a subtle kinship to Stanley Kubrick's 2001 and Alex Proyas' iRobot, as well as recent novels like Chang Rae Lee's On Such A Full Sea and Dave Eggers' The Circle, Cyberia tells an entirely unique story that blends the physical world with the digital, the familial with the futuristic and the heartwarming with the heartbreaking. With these dichotomies hanging in the balance against the backdrop of an advanced landscape, the story remains rooted in the tenets of the human experience: family, credibility and trust.

Cyberia is, at its core, the account of a man who is aware that he can do and be better - as a father, scientist, husband and citizen - but despite this knowing still grapples with his responsibilities to himself, his family and his world.

This film also dissects the implications of a society where equality is only relative, and where saving those around you is not always as flawlessly heroic as it may seem. But it is something that some of us, imperfect as we may be, were born to do.

Pi (π)

Pi, also titled π, is a 1998 American surrealist psychological thriller film written and directed by Darren Aronofsky in his directorial debut. The film earned Aronofsky the Directing Award at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival, the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay and the Gotham Open Palm Award. The title refers to the mathematical constant pi. The film is notable for its covering of an array of themes including religion, mysticism and the relationship of the universe to mathematics. The story about a mathematician and the obsession with mathematical regularity contrasts two seemingly irreconcilable entities: the imperfect, irrational humanity and the rigor and regularity of mathematics, specifically number theory.

Pi was as independent as independent gets. If you want the true dope you can AMA. Seriously, as much as I love wikipedia what it llacks are details and facts that are not backed up by a publication.

BOXERS vs. BRIEFS, The creative called for a rough, underground, fight club vibe. I found this incredible propert just outside NYC, The Art Factory in Paterson, NJ. The place was huge and the owner was cool with letting me do just about anything. There were a few complications, such as building a regulation size ring was not finalized until the last minute, originally prothe goal was to rent but there wasnt anything available that didnt look like a Rocky ring. Since the ring was going to be the only prop along with a bell, we felt there wasnt a need for a prop stylist. I wasnt worried I suppose knew I could design and build it myself if it came down to it. Which is exactly what happened. In the end It turned out much better, Brad Dixon (client) and I wanted the ring to be solid white and fairly large. With the help of the wardrobe stylist Joe Polimeni, who happens to be the co-founder of Special Delivery and the visual director for Jeffery at the time, we built it.

Michelle Vawer was a delight to work with and play our Round Girl (Round 1, 2, 3, etc.), she has the right look and temperment. The fellas well both were legit boxers who we had to ask to pull their punhes. The film I directed (below) shows they have skills. SHot using a combination of packs and continuos lighting, on a Canon Mark II 5D with a set of fast lenses.

BOXERS vs. BRIEFS
FASHION FILM

The Boxers vs. Briefs film was inspired by the beat and pace of a street drummer and following the concept of a rough and edgy boxing gym. Shot concurrently with the photo campaign I had the luxury to block out the set ups for the film. The desision to drain the color and go with black and white was inspired by Scorsese's Raging Bull.

HOUSE OF MARGEAUX No.6133

I'm foolish and I'm funny and I'm needy. Am I needy? Are you sure I'm not needy? 'Cause I feel needy sometimes. That coat costs more than your house! Look, you are playing adults…with fully formed libidos, not 2 young men playing grab-ass in the shower. You go buy a tape recorder and record yourself for a whole day. I think you'll be surprised at some of your phrasing. Friend of mine from college. He also has a boat tho not called the Seaward.

I'M READY
by Geographer

Mike Deni of Geographer is an amazing talent and one of the funniest guys I have the pleasure to know, I'd put him neck and neck with Brad Dixon, yet another talented individual. The humor is sophisticated,  dark and dry like good whisky. I really don't know what that means. The inspiration for the video came from Mike who had some fantasy involving a ballerina getting bashed inside a snow globe. As with most music video's there was zero profit motive it was all about making something no matter what. I enjoy the challenge at the same time there is still a heavy responsibility. The little money we had had to go a long way to afford wire work professionals. The rest we addressed as things came up. Shot on a stage in Los Angeles and b-roll B- story elements in Las Vegas.
